Dennis was born and raised in San Jose, California. He attended San Jose High School, San Jose City college and San Jose State University. He graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education.
In 1977, Dennis received his teaching credential. In 1980 he earned an additional credential to teach the Learning Disabled. Dennis taught for 31 years in both the San Jose Unified and East Side Union High School Districts. He is currently coaching high school basketball at Andrew Hill High School. Dennis and his wife, Sandra, still live in San Jose with their two children. Dennis also has three older children and six grandchildren. Dennis recently received recognition on June 17, 2009 from the California Legislature Assembly for being selected the 23rd District Veteran of the Year. Dennis designed the San Jose "Vietnam War" Memorial Monument. He is also the author of the dedication, which is displayed on the middle of panel of the monument.
Dennis served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army from1968-1969. He was with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was honorably discharged in 1969. Dennis served as squad leader, point-man and was also a "Tunnel Rat". He received many decorations while serving his country. They include: A Bronze Star Medal for Heroism, a 2nd Bronze Star with V-Device and Oak Leaf Cluster also for Heroism, Army Commendation Medal for Gallantry Cross with Palm, RVN Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, H-Minus Medals for Loyalty and Leadership, and a M-16 Expert Marksman commendation.
Sandra was born and raised in San Jose, California. She attended Mt. Pleasant High School and San Jose State University. She graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration Management.
After college, she worked in Hospital Administration at O'Connor Hospital in the Finance Department. In 1996 she joined eBay, Inc. She was the 5th employee of the company and played a major role in managing the day-to-day operations of Human Resources, Customer Service, Billing, Facilities and Finance. Sandra married Dennis in 2000, and is now raising their two children.
William was born in San Diego, California and moved to San Jose in 1959. He attended Blackford High School, West Valley Junior College and State Jose State University. He graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration Managment.
In 1976, William earned his General Contracting License. His construction company did mainly rough framing on custom homes. He is currently retired and has two daughters.
William served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army from 1966-1968. He served in the 9th Infantry Division. He was rated 100% disabled from the Army in 2003. While serving, William received the following honors: Two Purple Hearts, wounded in August and September of 1967, and a Combat Infantry Badge.
Michael R. Salas - Media Officer
Mike was born, raised and continues to live in San Jose, California. He attended San Jose High School and graduated in 1965.
Mike is in his 38th year of employment with the San Jose Water Company, a company that serves a million plus customers. He began his career as a maintenance worker repairing water mains, valves and potable water meters. As time moved on and opportunity surfaced he was given the assignment to supervise and direct the Field Customer Service/Inspector Department and is currently supervising the company's Meter Shop Department which is responsible for preserving and protecting the revenue for San Jose Water Company through good comprehensive meter maintenance and testing programs.
Mike served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Air Force from 1966-1970. He was honorably discharged in 1970. The USAF sent Mike to various technical training schools prior to him commencing his career. After training was completed, Mike was assigned to the 13th Air Force Pacific Air Command; Asia-Pacific region, 8th Air Force Air Combat Command; Europe and the 3500th Pilot Training Wing; Lubbock Texas. He was a crew-chief specialized in all systems of the F4 Phantom supersonic jet interceptor fighter as well as the T-37 and T-33 trainer jet aircraft. He was, therefore, personally responsible for the aircraft and the pilots who flew them. Not one life or aircraft was lost under his direction. His heart remains with the 78th TAC Fighter Squadron and all the other squadrons he was assigned to as they made great personal sacrifices to preserve peace and freedom.
Mike is married to Gloria, the girl who wrote to him overseas. They've been married for 37 years and have two wonderful daughters and one grandson.
Jeffrey Berg-Project Officer
Jeff was born at O'Connor Hospital in 1965. He was raised and still lives in the Willow Glen area of San Jose with his wife and children. A graduate of Del Mar High School in San Jose, he later studied architecture eventually earning a Bachelor of Architecture at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He has practiced at Steinberg Architects since 1993 and is currently an Associate Principal working on a variety of educational, civic and custom residential projects. Jeff firmly believes in supporting our Veterans and current service members.
